What is Myopia?

BOOK AN APPOINTMENT

  • Myopia, commonly known as "nearsightedness", is a refractive error in the eye where distant objects appear blurry, while close-up objects can be seen clearly.
  • This occurs when the eye is too long relative to the focusing power of the cornea and lens, or when the cornea itself is too curved. As a result, light entering the eye is focused in front of the retina rather than directly on it.
  • Myopia affects millions of children and adults, worldwide and affects up to 40% of people by age 17.
  • Myopia is a common condition that typically develops in childhood and can worsen over time.
  • It is often corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses, lifestyle changes, low dose prescription eye drops, or in some cases, refractive surgery

At NewVue, we prioritize the long-term eye health and visual freedom of our patients. Here’s why our myopia management program stands out:
  1. Personalized Approach: We understand that every patient is unique. Our team will assess your specific needs and tailor a treatment plan that fits your lifestyle and vision goals.
  2. Advanced Technology: We utilize state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and innovative treatment options to provide the most effective myopia management solutions available.
  3. Comprehensive Care: From your initial evaluation to continuous monitoring and follow-up visits, we provide comprehensive support at every step to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

We also take pride in our efforts to correct high myopia in children and young adults.

Every child's vision needs are different and require different methods of therapy. Using the latest, evidence-based treatments, some of which include orthokeratology (Ortho-K) lenses, multifocal contact lenses, and atropine eye drops, we will evaluate and assess which treatment plan will aid best in correcting your child's myopia. These safe and effective therapies are designed to not only correct your child's vision, but also reduce the long-term risks associated with high myopia such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.

Let us help protect your child’s vision for a clearer, healthier future! To learn more about treating myopia, watch the video linked below or click HERE.
