Lens Materials

When selecting eyeglass lenses, the material you choose can impact both comfort and durability. Each lens material offers unique benefits, so selecting the right one depends on your lifestyle, prescription, and preferences.
  • Plastic lenses (CR-39) are the most common out of all lens options; they are also lightweight, affordable, and provide good optical clarity, making them a popular choice for everyday wear. However, they are more prone to scratches compared to other materials.
  • Polycarbonate lenses are a great option for those seeking durability and impact resistance. These lenses are up to 10 times stronger than plastic and are ideal for active individuals, children, or people in jobs where safety is a concern.
  • High-index lenses are great for those with higher prescriptions. Made from a denser material, they allow for thinner and lighter lenses, reducing the bulk and weight often associated with strong prescriptions. High-index lenses provide superior optical clarity and are especially beneficial for individuals who want a sleek, comfortable look without compromising on vision quality.

Lens Coatings

Lens coatings may be invisible, but they play a big role in how well your glasses perform. From anti-reflective coatings that reduce glare and improve night vision, to scratch-resistant layers that protect your lenses from daily wear and tear, these enhancements help your glasses last longer and work better. Some coatings also offer UV protection or blue light filtering, shielding your eyes from harmful rays and digital strain. Whether you're working at a screen or driving at night, lens coatings can make a noticeable difference in clarity, comfort, and durability. Here are some common lens coating options that we offer at NewVue:

  • Anti-reflective (AR) coating reduces glare from screens, headlights, and other light sources, improving clarity and reducing eye strain. This coating also helps prevent smudges, making lenses easier to clean.
  • Blue light filters are ideal for those who spend long hours in front of digital devices. They block harmful blue light emitted by screens, helping to reduce eye fatigue and improve sleep quality.
  • UV protection is essential for safeguarding your eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause long-term damage. Many lenses come with built-in UV protection to shield your eyes from sun exposure, reducing the risk of cataracts and other vision problems.
  • Photochromic lenses, also known as Transition lenses, automatically adjust to changing light conditions, darkening in response to sunlight and returning to clear indoors. This makes them a great option for those who want the benefits of both prescription glasses and sunglasses in one pair, without the hassle of switching between different eyewear.
